Built by neighbors. For everyone.
The Columbia Gorge Skating Association (CGSA) is the all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit building The Gorge Ice Rink — the first year-round indoor ice facility in the Columbia Gorge.
Year-round ice. For every skater. Right here.
Today, the nearest year-round ice is a two-hour drive. That means Gorge families pile in the car at 5 a.m. to get their kids to practice — or they give up the sport entirely. Hockey players, figure skaters, and curlers travel out of the region to compete. We've outgrown the seasonal pond. It's time to build something permanent.
The Gorge Ice Rink will be a full NHL-standard sheet with locker rooms, a pro shop, a community café, and 300–400 seats along the ice. A community anchor — not a highway exit.
Public
Open to everyone — kids, adults, beginners, league players. Drop-in skates, lessons, and adult leagues, not just youth elite.
Permanent
Indoor and refrigerated. Open every month of the year, regardless of weather. Built to last decades.
Transparent
Every dollar visible. Public progress dashboard, monthly milestones, and an annual report. No black box.

An all-volunteer team — neighbors, parents, and Gorge residents who decided ice belongs here.

The questions we get most.
Where will the rink be built?
Land has been secured through a generous community donation, immediately adjacent to Hood River Valley High School at Indian Creek & Barrett. A community anchor, not a highway exit.
How big is it?
A full 200' × 85' NHL-standard ice sheet with 300–400 spectator seats, multiple locker rooms, a pro shop, and a community café overlooking the ice.
Is it open to everyone?
Yes. Public skate sessions, learn-to-skate programs, youth and adult hockey leagues, figure skating, and special-event ice time. Built for the whole community.
Is CGSA a nonprofit?
Yes. CGSA is a registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit (EIN: 33-2079456), governed by an all-volunteer board. Donations are tax-deductible.
How much will it cost to build?
$10 million capital campaign. Funded by a mix of individual donors, foundations, local grants, and a public-private partnership.
